Adoption is a beautiful way to grow your family. It’s also different and hard to explain to the people you most want to understand – your family. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins all want to support you and love you well on your adoption journey, but all too often, they just don’t understand the process. Home studies, profiles, ICPC… it’s all so confusing!
At ASA we have opened up our Adoption 101 classes to our consulting clients’ families. We feel this is a great way to help adoptive families feel supported and cared for by those who love them the most. It also helps the extended family know and understand the adoption journey. It’s a win/win for everyone!
Not everyone has access to our Adoption 101, but there are options on line for families who live far away but want to learn more about the process and support you as you pursue adoption.
Adoption Training Online (www.adoptiontrainingonline.com) has an Adoption 101 that explores international and domestic adoption as well as the home study process. Creating a Family (www.creatingafamily.org) also has an Adoption 101 that is a helpful overview. Adoption Learning Partners (www.adoptionlearningpartners.org) is one of the most respected on line adoption education websites. Any of these sites are worth a look. And they are definitely worth sharing with your family!
